Designer fabric remnants
Noir et Or cushions are made from small amounts of high-end fabric remnants that are unused or end of roll . I have chosen to incorporate this element into my business because so much fabric is thrown away when fabrics are discontinued, new collections are launched or they are unusable due to the size of the off-cut for a certain design project. These small pieces of fabric are still in perfect condition and are a delight to me as I love putting together schemes and matching up fabrics to make into exclusive cushions. It is also great to know that the fabric is being given a new lease of life instead of going to waste. I spend a lot of time measuring and working out the sizes and quantities of my cushions to ensure that every inch is used up in the best possible way. This often means there is a very limited number of cushions or a pair for example may not match. Personally, I feel this is a bonus as each cushion is then unique to its owner and isn’t it just nice to have something different instead of a mass produced product?
It is so wonderful to see so many companies being more eco friendly, sustainable and who are also recycling and reusing fabrics and textiles, the word is definitely getting out there!
This is just the start for me, I am always thinking about new ways to make my business more sustainable and will continue to explore this as Noir et Or develops.
